There’s really nothing the gets significantly better in terms of making your tan look better. Once a good lotion is produced, the only thing they really improve upon is the texture and smell of the lotion. All the other things like tingles, anti aging ingredients, and bronzer’s are all ‘bells and whistles’ that they must re formulate and repackage. In retail, the best selling lotions are always the NEW lotions with cool packaging, texture, and smell. If a lotion company sticks to the same lotions all the time they will lose market share. So they have to keep making up new stuff.
Bottom Line On The Best Cheap and Expensive Lotions…
So the best indoor tanning lotion is most of the $30-$70 (retail) lotions made by California Tan. I recommend CT-7 or X-Power. But if you want a cheaper lotion that will get you really tan and make your skin look good go with: Designer Skin. Supre, and Devoted Creations also have good lotions for the price.
The reason I like California Tan is because the results are really good, every product they make is excellent: spray tanning, moisturizers, outdoor lotions, and indoor tanning lotions.
The main thing I want you to take away from here is Not to go for new stuff all the time. It’s usually more expensive, and there is rarely a difference from the older lotions like X-Power except for packaging, texture, and smell.
The Best Rated Tanning Lotions:
The best rated tanning lotions for indoor tanning and outdoor tanning will vary from person to person.
On our indoor tanning lotions review page you will find many different lotions that customers like. And you can’t really go wrong with their recommendations.
But with 8 years in the tanning salon business I can honestly say that the best rated tanning lotions are made by California Tan. And not necessarily the new ones either!
The older indoor tanning lotions are the best rated ones because when they first came out they were really expensive, and they worked really well. But they are still very good.
The new lotions simply have a new smell, packaging, and a couple of ingredients that make them sound amazing but really aren’t very important.

So the best indoor tanning lotions, in my view are California Tan X Power with or without bronzer. Don’t waste your time searching for anything else because you won’t find anything better.
You might find a nicer smelling lotion or one that looks really cool, but that’s all you are getting.
Other best rated tanning lotions include Designer Skin, Supre, and many others. Like I said, stick with the Cal Tan X Power series. You can’t go wrong.
For the best outdoor tanning lotions, you can also choose California Tan. All of their lotions are top quality.
But if you want to try something different, effective, and it does not have any SPF Maui Baby is really good. Warning: This is a pure tanning lotion. There is no SPF.
Do not use outdoor tanning lotion in a tanning bed. It ruins tanning beds. The oils get into the tiny cracks, makes the worse, and discolors them. Secondly, outdoor tanning lotion does not work well in a tanning bed. Indoor tanning bed lotions are formulated to work with the high intensity tanning bed bulbs. Conversely, don’t use indoor tanning lotion for outdoor tanning.
So to sum it up, the best indoor tanning bed lotions are X Power. The best outdoor lotions are also anything made by California Tan, but you should buy Maui Babe because it’s cheaper and awesome.
