Indoor Tanning Lotion Tips!

by Java on September 9, 2011

Indoor tanning lotion is an important part of your indoor tanning experience. The right lotion will maximize your tanning results. A cheap lotion will make your tan plateau and limits your results from tanning in a tanning bed.

When choosing a tanning bed lotion, consider the following things:

What kind of tanning bed are you tanning in? This is an important question because many salons are using outdated tanning equipment that might be harmful to your skin. The old tanning beds put out too much UVB, and there are some other flaws in these older tanning beds as well.

But if you are tanning in a new line of tanning beds from the last 5 or maybe 7 years or less, and they are manufactured by companies such as Tan America, Sun Ergoline, some Dr. Mueller (there are several others), you should be ok.

What is the intensity of the tanning bed, and what mixture of UVB and UVA is it putting out? Are you tanning in a level one tanning bed (entry level), or are you tanning in a high intensity tanning bed (level 2+). The intensity level is important because the higher the intensity, the more UV you will receive.

In addition, how much UVA and UVB will you be getting? A bed putting out
too much UVB is not good for you if you are tanning regularly and for long periods of time.
You want to tan in a tanning bed that puts out more UVA than UVB, or at least mix it up between a beds.

The beds with the most UVA are usually more expensive.

The best way to go is in a new High Pressure tanning bed because (if it’s a good one), it puts out 99.9% UVA. UVA penetrates deeper in your skin, gives you a deeper darker tan, and it lasts longer so that you don’t have to tan as often.

What is your skin type? You skin type is important as well when it comes to indoor tanning bed lotion. If you have fair skin, you probably don’t want a bronzer in it. But if you have skin that tans easily, then you may want a bronzer.

How often are you going to tan, and for how long? If you are tanning regularly in low level beds, you should get a very good indoor tanning lotion so that you maximize your results from every session, and you don’t have to go as often. Tanning often in low level beds exposes you to more UVB.

See above for more details. And if you are tanning in high intensity tanning beds or high pressure tanning beds, get the best lotion possible if you can afford it because you will really be amazed by the results. But if you are on a budget, you might be able to get away with a mid range discount indoor tanning lotion.
