Solar Mask: A solar mask blocks approximately 96% of the UV from hitting your face. It also reduces sweat and keeps you cooler while tanning. Some people do not want wrinkles sooner than later, and UV can accelerate the wrinkle process over time. A solar cap also keeps your face from burning, and helps you avoid raccoon eyes. Side note: towels don’t block UV rays. They slightly filter them. If you are using a towel on your face you are not protecting it from UV. Consider using a solar mask instead.

Sunspot Treatment: A newer product in the tanning industry, sunspot treatment is a way to get those sunspots to disappear. But does it really work? You be the judge. We haven’t tried it yet.

Side Note: These first three tanning accessories are also for men, but they rarely use them…it seems that they are a ‘girly thing’.

Nail Savers: Nail savers are used on your fingernails to block UV from hating your nails. The reason you want to put Neil savors on his because if you have nail polish. You see, breaks down the color of your nail polish. UV particularly affects French manicures. Also, if you have acrylic nails, UV will fade the color of your acrylics, and it also may affect the adhesive.

Solar Bra: Protects your breast area, contours to nipple area. Lasts a long time, and is good for spray tanning as well.

Indoor Tanning Bed Accessories For Men and Women:

Manly UV Bonnet: Protects the private area during your tanning session. Does UV effect important area? Is it worth it to even wonder? Just protect it! The newest product in the category is called a Man Hood.

Beach Sandals and Flip-flops: flip flops are great because, you can literally take your clothes on and off without having to touch the floor with your bare feet. You’ll find this helpful especially if the floors are cold, and more importantly,
you will not get any fungus as a result of anyone tanning prior to you.

Hand sanitizer: You many want to sanitize your hands after your tanning session. Especially if you are tanning in a busy or questionable salon.

You enjoy getting a tan. It provides your body with that golden skin color. You do not have to go to a summer locale during the winter months just to keep up your tan.

It is possible to go to a tanning salon and maintain your color when the sun is not out. If you become pregnant you might want to rethink using the tanning bed as it may cause complications for your unborn child.

While you might think that you can carry on your regular routine as usual, this may not be the case should you become pregnant. You need to consider the health and well being on your baby. Too much exposure from the tanning beds can expose your child to radiation from the UV lights that help to darken your skin.

Because your body is experiencing many changes due to the pregnancy you can get discoloration on your skin. This is due to excessive changes in skin pigmentation while tanning during your pregnancy. Too much of it can make you get brown patches on your face. This is a condition known as chloasma.

Your body provides a protection barrier for your child to live and grow while he or she gets ready to come into the world. This barrier can be compromised from excessive heat that is received from the tanning bed. When you enter the area your body temperature rises from the heat lamps that are inside the tanning bed. This will also raise the body temperature of your child as well. Too much heat can cause developmental damage. If you are in your first trimester it can even create spinal deformities.

There are a few problems which are known to cause concern for the unborn child. There may be other problems which the medical community is not yet aware of which can harm the child.

If you cannot or will not stop going to the tanning bed during your pregnancy you can decrease the risk associated with the practice. It is possible to decrease the amount of time that you actually spend inside the bed. You might also bring clothing and place it across your abdomen for added protection. Secondly, tanning on top of a burn is causing you more harm than good. If you burned in the first place you are not tanning properly. Tanning slowly and building up your base is the only way to do it.

Thirdly, tanning in a tanning bed after a burn is asking for trouble. If you want a fast track to skin cancer, this is it. This is why, in my opinion there is a high rate of skin cancer in older people. Back in the day they thought that using oil and lying in the sun all day was OK, even if they burn. Well, now they are paying the price.

One of the secrets to getting a nice tan is to start slow. You may not even see a difference in the first few sessions. That’s good. By the end of the second week or third week you will. Use an indoor tanning lotion.

But, again here is how to use a tanning bed after a burn: DON’T!

So if you are wondering how to use a tanning bed after a burn, don’t even think about it. Use burn relief gel, and/or aloe vera. Try a cool bath with Epson salt. But ask your doctor before taking any advice when treating a burn because it may be worse than you think.

Fresh tanning bed bulbs are what produce the best results. But not all tanning lamps are alike.

There are many different kinds of brands and intensities of bulbs that are used to line tanning capsules and booths. Many units come with manufacture’s directions that recommend which tanning bed bulbs best suit the operation of the machine. For instance, not all tanning beds are equipped to use both UVA and UVB ray lamps. Many newer tanning beds use bulbs that emit more UVA rays. Some high pressure tanning beds emit 99% UVA rays.

The average life of a tanning bed lamp is estimated to be between 800 to 1000 hours but this longevity may vary depending on whether or not you purchased discount bulbs or used bulbs. Tanning lamps operate at their peak strength for the first 150 to 200 hours of use. After that, the strength of the bulb is thought to drop in intensity until they are devoid of tanning power.

Owners of commercial tanning beds who want to continue to offer a quality service may want to consider changing their bulbs frequently so that their customers can consistently optimize their tan. It is also recommended that all of the bulbs be changed at once so that a customer does not achieve an uneven tan as a result of bulbs operating at varying strengths.

The rule of thumb is “the newer the tanning bed lamp”, the better the tan.

Exfoliate your skin: good skin preparation is important to achieving a balanced, even looking tan. Use a quality exfoliant gel, like Mystic Tan’s Exfoliant, that will remove the dead skin cells on the surface but won’t dry out your skin.

• Don’t put any oil-based lotions on prior to your session: if you use a moisturizer every day, you may want to consider not using before doing your spray tan or Mystic session. Oils in the lotion can block the solution from penetrating your skin evenly, so results can appear blotchy or uneven if you do.

• Wear loose fitting clothing afterwards, and don’t shower or exercise for at least 6 hours: for best results, don’t wear tight clothing or it may rub off on your clothes and make your tan uneven. Also, avoid showering or going to gym for at least 4-6 hours, and the longer the better for maximum results and a lasting tan!
