So lets see what this product does, and if it’s a good buy…

Everyone wants to look good and having a great tan is one way to create a healthy and sexy appearance.

However, in today’s world it has been proven by doctors that too much sun is not healthy and can even lead to skin cancer.

Avid tanners don’t want to give up that great look of a tanned body so alternative methods were invented. The Nuress home tanning salon is one of those alternative ways and one of the best around.

When you use the Nuress home tanning salon you enhance the appearance of your skin and also treats the health of your skin at the same time.

This is because the Nuress system includes the active ingredients of Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. Both of these ingredients have healing and moisturizing capabilities.

You may have noticed that people who tan a lot in the sun may have a leather-look to their skin. This is because the sun has taken out the moisture in their face.

With the Nuress home tanning salon you still get a fantastic looking tan, but your skin stays soft and full of moisture.

How Nuress Works

You will be able to easily spray your entire body in just a few minutes. Never again will you be spending hours laying in the hot sun to get that glorious tan, in fact, you can easily spray your entire body in the privacy of your own home which means no tan lines!

What Comes In the Box?

The Spray System

You might think it’s simple to airbrush someone, but there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.

There is quite a bit of spray tan training to know before your first airbrush customer, including:

what kind of spay tan equipment to get

how to maintain your equipment

what spay tan solution to use

how to apply an airbrush properly

how to get the right color

adjusting to skin types

positioning the client

proper ventilation

and much more!

For example, should you get an HLVP airbrush, or a standard airbrush?

The answer to this question is to get an HLVP because it sprays in a larger area or pattern.

This will reduce the amount of time you spend spraying a client, which cuts down on solution, and time, saving you money.

After you purchase an HLVP airbrush tanning equipment, you must get a quality tanning solution, and you must maintain your equipment.

You must have a supply of spare parts and solution available. There is nothing more stressful than having a clogged spray gun, or the machine is malfunctioning (due to poor maintenance), or no solution with a full day of spray tans ahead of you.

When we first started custom airbrush tanning, we provided spray tan training for our staff, and then had the staff sign off on their paperwork that they completed the training and had them take a quiz.

In addition we have a checklist that listed several action items for them to take care of including maintaining the airbrush equipment.

Before we had the checklist we just got verbal agreements that they were cleaning the equipment. But they were not (imagine that!) and we had a couple major equipment malfunctions that cost us money. So be prepared!

Getting Your Staff Spray Tan Trained!

I recommend finding a professional airbrush tanning trainer outside of your market area and have them train yourself and your staff.

This way you get hands on training, and you can get some potential insider tips from this person as well.

This is exactly what we did. It cost just $300, and our staff of 5 airbrushers got and entire day of airbrush tanning training from a seasoned spray tanner. They were able to practice on each other, and received a certificate which is a good marketing tool for inside your salon, and on your promotional material.

And they took a short quiz at the end to be sure they understood everything they went over and practiced.

Side Bar: Once you get good at spray tanning you can become an spray tan trainer yourself and market your services to salons outside your area. All you have to do is set up a curriculum, create a quiz, and print up certificates, and you are on your way to a new profit center in your business.

Good news! Before you start calling around and searching on the internet for an airbrush tanning training person, you should get this really good guide (it’s all you need to get started in your airbrush tanning business).

This spray tan training course material covers everything you need to know to get up and running a successful airbrush tanning business.

It’s really good, and if you don’t think so get a refund. They have a really generous guarantee. But I think you’ll keep it and use it over and over in your business

It’s a bronzer lotion that is only for experienced tanners, as is most bronzer lotions. They are calling it: Jwoww black bronzer.

The best features of this indoor tanning lotion is that it has an amazing smell.

But the coolest thing about JWOWW bronzer tanning lotion is that after you finish your tanning session you won’t have the awful smell that comes with many lotions, after tanning.

The best overall feature of JWOWW tanning lotion are the results. If you have been tanning for some time and have not gotten darker, then try JWOWW bronzer tanning lotion. It will bring you to another level.

However, there are some mixed results. Most people love it, but some people didn’t get darker. This could be a result of many factors like if they were using a quality tanning bed, or the bed bulbs where old.

jwoww black bronzer tanning bed lotion is a quality lotion that you will get exceptional results from. The ingredients used in this lotion are many but the main ones are black currant and kukui oil which may be the reason the results you will achieve.

For just $21 you can get JWOWW on Amazon, which is half the price at retail from tanning salons.

Tanning beds range from the very low cost, poor quality beds to the high end high pressure beds that cost upwards of $30,000 or more.

There is a dramatic difference in terms of quality, reliability, and results from one tanning bed manufacturers to the other.

Some tanning bed companies focus on the low end home beds, to the larger companies that sell commercial tanning beds like Sun Ergoline or Tan America.

Whether you are looking for a bed for your home or salon, there are a two important things to consider:

The foot print: How much room do you have for a tanning bed? Is there adequate space?

Power: The higher end beds take up a large amount of power. So if you don’t have the right amount of power coming into your home or salon, and if your tanning room is not wired properly for the bed, you will be spending more money than you planned.

After you figure out how much room you have and what kind of power you can send to the bed, now you can shop. Or can you?

First, you have to establish your budget, and if you will settle for a used tanning bed.

There are tons of used beds on the market due to the fact that almost half of all tanning salons went out of business, and continue to go out of business due to the economy and the new tanning tax.

So look into buying a used tanning bed because you can find beds that were $20,000 4 or 5 years ago for just $5000 or $6000. Maybe less.

Ebay is a good source for used tanning beds because you can see what the feedback rating is of the seller. Never buy if there is less than 10 positive feedbacks.

However, when you buy a used tanning bed it’s just like buying a used car. Often you will not even see the bed until it has been shipped. So you need to do your homework:

Get everything in writing.

Find out how fresh the bulbs are. If you have to replace the bulbs that will cost several hundred dollars.

Make sure the electrics are in fine working order.

Find out how many hours were used on the bed. Do not get a tanning bed that is old with many hours of usage.

Find out how fresh the acrylics are on the tanning bed. If you have to replace the acrylics that can set you back several hundred dollars as well.

Get precise electrical requirements for the bed.

See if you can get an extended warranty or if the seller will fix any problems that may arise as a result of the bed not working, or if the information given was not accurate like no bulbs or missing bulbs, or a worn out acrylic.

You are getting a used tanning bed so don’t expect to get a perfect bed. There will be wear and tear.

Buying A New Tanning Bed:

There are many advantages to buying a new bed from the manufacturer. The best benefits are that it’s under warranty, it’s new and gorgeous, and the bulbs are fresh.

If you negotiate well you may get them to install the bed and include shipping in the price.

Don’t expect too much though if you are just buying 1 bed. They need to make money too.

But if you are buying multiple beds, they will bend over backwards for you.

Buying beds for a salon is not something to take lightly. Each tanning bed will have it’s own room and each room is there to make money.

Do not buy beds that are cheap or seem like they look nice. Buy tanning booths from a quality manufacturer with quality electrical and sturdy design.

Also, if possible, buy tanning beds from a company that has a local maintenance and/or repair technician. You don’t want to be stuck in the middle of the busy season with one of your best tanning beds out because then it’s not making you any money. And you may have to wait days for someone to help you, or you could be stuck on the phone with technical support trying to do it yourself. That can be a nightmare.

This quality tanning bed was for sale by rboss0302 on Ebay

Avoid using a middle man when you buy new tanning beds. He or she usually is not going to be in the business for long, and although they may help you in the beginning, they will disappear soon enough. Start and maintain a relationship with a manufacturer.

When you buy for a salon think about your tanning bed mix. But first find out what your competition has. You may be tempted to get a bunch of level one tanning beds (basic tanning beds) because they are cheap (and you can get some really nice ones as well). But you need to have more powerful beds in your tanning bed mix. Some tanning salons have 6 levels!

This excellent Tan America bed was for salon on Ebay by starlighttanning

In addition to regular tanning beds, you should have a spray tanning booth or airbrush tanning system. More and more people are getting spray tans, and you’ll be leaving money on the table if you don’t.

Side Bar: Be sure the electrical system in your tanning beds have the correct power for the bulbs you will be using. What I mean is, some tanning bed companies say they have 140 or 160 watt tanning beds because that is what the bulbs say. But in actuality they have maybe 120 because they put a cheap electrical system in to save money in the manufacturing process. This is another reason to buy tanning beds from well known brands because you get what you pay for in this business.

If you are buying a home tanning bed, the same advice should be applied. You don’t want to be stuck with a broken part or error messages coming up on the screen and trying to sort it out with technical support (unless it’s an easy fix), because then it may be broken for days.

If you buy a cheap tanning bed you will really be in for a ride because they break easily, parts are hard to get, and the companies that sell cheap tanning beds usually have bad support.

So if you buy tanning beds be sure you at least get a mid range to upper high end for your home from a good quality company that has good support and someone local to help you if possible.

A guide to indoor tanning bed accessories: Indoor tanning is becoming more and more accepted by skincare experts and professionals. Why? Because, exposing your skin to UV helps your body naturally produce vitamin D, which has many benefits.

In our opinion, indoor tanning is better than outdoor tanning, because you are getting a prescribed dose of UV, and if you are going to a good tanning salon, the tanning assistants should be able to educate and consult you on how much you should be tanning so you can either maximize your tanning results, or get an adequate amount of UV for a healthier lifestyle.

A good tanning salon should also help you choose the tanning bed accessories that are right for you.

As indoor tanning has become more accepted, and as the industry grows, new products to help you achieve and maintain a nice bronze tan and protect certain parts of your body from UV exposure, which many have harmful effects, like your hair and fingernails, are being produced.

Indoor tanning accessories for you to consider for your next indoor tanning session:

Side Note: The indoor tanning accessories below are not for everyone. But you may find several that will help you have a better indoor tanning experience. The main tanning accessory that is not listed here is indoor tanning lotion…but it goes without saying, right?

Tanning Accessories For Women:

Solar Cap: A solar cap, blocks the UV from getting to your hair. UV fades in hair coloring. So if you have had your hair down, you do not want to expose your hair to excessive amounts of UV, or at least limit the amount of UV. Your hair receives, because it affects hair coloring. The newest and coolest solar cap is a Tannie.

Solar Mask: A solar mask blocks approximately 96% of the UV from hitting your face. It also reduces sweat and keeps you cooler while tanning. Some people do not want wrinkles sooner than later, and UV can accelerate the wrinkle process over time. A solar cap also keeps your face from burning, and helps you avoid raccoon eyes. Side note: towels don’t block UV rays. They slightly filter them. If you are using a towel on your face you are not protecting it from UV. Consider using a solar mask instead.

Sunspot Treatment: A newer product in the tanning industry, sunspot treatment is a way to get those sunspots to disappear. But does it really work? You be the judge. We haven’t tried it yet.

Side Note: These first three tanning accessories are also for men, but they rarely use them…it seems that they are a ‘girly thing’.

Nail Savers: Nail savers are used on your fingernails to block UV from hating your nails. The reason you want to put Neil savors on his because if you have nail polish. You see, breaks down the color of your nail polish. UV particularly affects French manicures. Also, if you have acrylic nails, UV will fade the color of your acrylics, and it also may affect the adhesive.

Solar Bra: Protects your breast area, contours to nipple area. Lasts a long time, and is good for spray tanning as well.

Indoor Tanning Bed Accessories For Men and Women:

Manly UV Bonnet: Protects the private area during your tanning session. Does UV effect important area? Is it worth it to even wonder? Just protect it! The newest product in the category is called a Man Hood.

Teeth Whitener: Why not whiten your teeth while you tan? White teeth make you appear a bit thinner, and healthier too!

Peepers: Peepers are in the category of tanning booth accessories, and are basically small eye goggles that keep the UV from hitting your eyes. Over time, exposure
to UV may damage your cornea, and you may need surgery. UV exposure on a consistent basis without eye protection can severely damage your cornea.

After Tan Wipes: After Tan wipes, otherwise known as Fresh-Ease, are used to wipe your self down and give yourself a pleasant odor, versus the common odor. Your body releases as a result of melanin production during any tanning session.

Back Lotion Applicator: This cool indoor tanning accessory helps you hit a hard to reach areas on your back. These are very handy, because you can never quite get your back covered with lotion.

After Tan Moisturizer: Replenishes the moisture back into your skin. Tanning tries out your scan, and if you don’t moisturize it. Your Tan will not last as long. You can also buy after Tan moisturizer that can accelerate the tanning process.

Stickers: Stickers are another tanning booth accessory that you put on your body before you tan. They have been around for many years in the tanning industry. You simply put these on your body before each tanning session, and afterward, you will see the sticker impression on your body. For example, you can get a butterfly, and stick it on your arm. And after your tanning session,
take the sticker off and you will have a butterfly impression.

Beach Sandals and Flip-flops: flip flops are great because, you can literally take your clothes on and off without having to touch the floor with your bare feet. You’ll find this helpful especially if the floors are cold, and more importantly,
you will not get any fungus as a result of anyone tanning prior to you.

Hand sanitizer: You many want to sanitize your hands after your tanning session. Especially if you are tanning in a busy or questionable salon.

There are more indoor tanning accessories, but these are probably the most common. Let us know if we did not include accessories you use.

You enjoy getting a tan. It provides your body with that golden skin color. You do not have to go to a summer locale during the winter months just to keep up your tan.

It is possible to go to a tanning salon and maintain your color when the sun is not out. If you become pregnant you might want to rethink using the tanning bed as it may cause complications for your unborn child.

While you might think that you can carry on your regular routine as usual, this may not be the case should you become pregnant. You need to consider the health and well being on your baby. Too much exposure from the tanning beds can expose your child to radiation from the UV lights that help to darken your skin.

Because your body is experiencing many changes due to the pregnancy you can get discoloration on your skin. This is due to excessive changes in skin pigmentation while tanning during your pregnancy. Too much of it can make you get brown patches on your face. This is a condition known as chloasma.

Your body provides a protection barrier for your child to live and grow while he or she gets ready to come into the world. This barrier can be compromised from excessive heat that is received from the tanning bed. When you enter the area your body temperature rises from the heat lamps that are inside the tanning bed. This will also raise the body temperature of your child as well. Too much heat can cause developmental damage. If you are in your first trimester it can even create spinal deformities.

Doctors and midwives state that caution should be used during pregnancy. They advise against the activity of tanning during pregnancy. There are a few problems which are known to cause concern for the unborn child. There may be other problems which the medical community is not yet aware of which can harm the child.

If you cannot or will not stop going to the tanning bed during your pregnancy you can decrease the risk associated with the practice. It is possible to decrease the amount of time that you actually spend inside the bed. You might also bring clothing and place it across your abdomen for added protection. Or you can decide to try a spray on tan while pregnant.

Tanning beds have become commonplace for the average user. Many people have regular scheduled appointments at the local tanning salon. Should one get pregnant they need to consider the ramifications of continuing the procedure during that time.

It is best to avoid the tanning salon for nine months to ensure the health and safety of your unborn child, unless you want to do a spray tan. But in that case you should do your due diligence when it comes to the type of spray used, and if they use a quality exhaust system for the fumes.

Answer to how to use a tanning bed after a burn: Don’t use a tanning bed, or lay in the sun. Period. End of story.

When you get a burn, you have damaged your skin and it needs time to heal. Depending on the severity it can take up to 2 weeks to completely heal. Ask our doctor.

What A Sun Burn Looks Like

Secondly, tanning on top of a burn is causing you more harm than good. If you burned in the first place you are not tanning properly. Tanning slowly and building up your base is the only way to do it.

Thirdly, tanning in a tanning bed after a burn is asking for trouble. If you want a fast track to skin cancer, this is it. This is why, in my opinion there is a high rate of skin cancer in older people. Back in the day they thought that using oil and lying in the sun all day was OK, even if they burn. Well, now they are paying the price.

One of the secrets to getting a nice tan is to start slow. You may not even see a difference in the first few sessions. That’s good. By the end of the second week or third week you will. Use an indoor tanning lotion.

But, again here is how to use a tanning bed after a burn: DON’T!

So if you are wondering how to use a tanning bed after a burn, don’t even think about it. Use burn relief gel, and/or aloe vera. Try a cool bath with Epson salt. But ask your doctor before taking any advice when treating a burn because it may be worse than you think.

But not all tanning lamps are alike.

There are many different kinds of brands and intensities of bulbs that are used to line tanning capsules and booths. Many units come with manufacture’s directions that recommend which tanning bed bulbs best suit the operation of the machine. For instance, not all tanning beds are equipped to use both UVA and UVB ray lamps. Many newer tanning beds use bulbs that emit more UVA rays. Some high pressure tanning beds emit 99% UVA rays.

The average life of a tanning bed lamp is estimated to be between 800 to 1000 hours but this longevity may vary depending on whether or not you purchased discount bulbs or used bulbs. Tanning lamps operate at their peak strength for the first 150 to 200 hours of use. After that, the strength of the bulb is thought to drop in intensity until they are devoid of tanning power.

Owners of commercial tanning beds who want to continue to offer a quality service may want to consider changing their bulbs frequently so that their customers can consistently optimize their tan. It is also recommended that all of the bulbs be changed at once so that a customer does not achieve an uneven tan as a result of bulbs operating at varying strengths.

The rule of thumb is “the newer the tanning bed lamp”, the better the tan.
This is also true for consumers who might want to ask salon owners how frequently the bulbs are changed in their tanning beds.

Basic information on lamps: Tanning lamps are long fluorescent tubes that contain inert gases. Their surface is coated with phosphorus and traces of mercury. Electricity ignites the gases in the tubes, which causes the mercury atoms to release energy in the form of ultraviolet light. The amount of UV rays that a person is exposed to is determined by the thickness of the phosphorus coating on the bulb. The coating can be manipulated to allow the bulb to emit more of one kind of ray (such as a UVB ray) than another (such as a UVA ray.)

Wolff Systems Technologies, is the company credited most often for the pioneering of tanning bed bulbs. Their website offers all kinds of discount tanning bulbs, as well as tanning bulbs for newer and older tanning unites including the Bellarium, the Eurosun, the Everglo, the Dominion Pad and the Crystal Sun. The average cost of a replacement tanning bulb is about $14.00. These bulbs are manufactured for Wolff by Sylvania.

The tanning bed dangers debate has been raging for some while now in both the cosmetic and health industries, with the health industry claiming that the risks of skin cancer are the same if you use a tanning bed as they are if you sunbathe frequently*.

Inside A Tanning Salon

It seems, however, that the dangers of tanning beds are lessening somewhat.

Some salons are now claiming that their tanning equipment will emit less or even no harmful UVB rays and are offering more limited exposures to the ultraviolet light than what might be experienced outdoors in the natural sunlight. It’s claimed that these timed tanning sessions will help minimize any health risks compared to tanning outdoors.

UVB rays are short-wave ultraviolet rays that affect the outer layers of the skin. These are known commonly as the “burning rays”. UVA rays, which are the longer wave ultraviolet rays, can penetrate the skin much deeper and these are less likely to cause severe burning.

UVA rays make up the majority of UV which is emitted both from the sun and also from tanning bed bulbs.

Before the harmful effects of UVB were known, back in the 70’s and 80’s, tanning beds used a larger percentage of UVB in their bulbs than is used today. However, with the increase in both government regulations and wider knowledge about the tanning bed dangers, including damage caused to skin by UVB rays, many tanning beds today have less UVB in the bulbs and more UVA which helps make indoor tanning comparatively safer than it was 20 years’ ago.

It’s been argued that the argument against the many dangers of tanning beds is that a visit to a salon will expose an individual to the rays for only a specified amount of time, whereas exposure to the sun isn’t always restricted.

It’s vital that employees of tanning salons should fully understand the dangers of tanning beds as well as the benefits, and also take into account their client’s age, medical history, skin type and the amount of previous exposure. This important information should be used to calculate the recommended safe number of minutes’ exposure on the tanning bed. Such control outdoors is almost impossible to achieve, where the many changes of seasons, altitudes and reflective surfaces make levels of UVB fluctuate constantly.

Over the last decade, many tanning bed owners have thankfully become more aware of the relationship between ultraviolet rays and cancer and tanning equipment that emits mostly UVA rays are more likely to be found in salons today. Warnings are still issued, however, of the link between UVA light and malignant melanoma (an extremely dangerous type of skin cancer, characterized by moles).

Any long-term exposure to either natural sunlight or artificial sources of UV light, such as tanning beds, may create pre-cancerous conditions on the skin cells. Basal cell and squamous cell cancers are both thought to be caused by a combination of UVB and UVA rays and melanoma, sometimes a fatal form of skin cancer, is thought to be triggered by over-exposure to UVA rays.

You should remember that sitting outdoors in the sun carries the same, and potentially more risks as the tanning bed dangers discussed above, and if you’re at all concerned about the dangers of using tanning beds you should ensure that you choose a salon which uses modern equipment specializing in tanning with mostly UVA rays.

*Due your own due diligence before using a tanning bed and ask your doctor if a tanning bed is right for you and your skin type and lifestyle.

A quality spray tanning booth or self applied tanning spray is the only way to go. A cheap option can result in an orange or streaky tan.

We will cover all the questions we get, and if you have more please let us know by posting your question here.

How Long Does a Spray Tan Last?

It can last anywhere from 3 days to 10 days depending on how much you exfoliate, and what activities you engage in. For example, if you have really dry skin, your session will only last for 3-4 days and it may be splotchy.

Inside The Mystic Tan Spray Tan Booth

Using a quality exfoliate prior to your spray tanning session, and applying a quality hydrating lotion is highly recommended.

How long to shower after a spray (Mystic) tan?

You should wait 6 hours. Sometimes 4 is enough depending on how fast it dries. To play it safe, wait 6 – 8 hours.

How Often Can I Do a Spray On Tan?

You can do it as much as you want, but more then twice a week is really not necessary.

How to Prepare?

There are several things to consider before your spray tanning session. The more important ones are to use an exfoliate before your session, and to use lotion after your session (but not before). Click here for specific tips, and what you need to know about it.

What happens if I shower too soon? It will either wash away altogether, but most likely it will streak and be blotchy. A touch up spray is highly recommended to extend and touch up any light spots.

How to remove mistakes? See the answers to the question How to remove it (tanning solution/spray) from hands’.
What Is The Best Spray Tanning Product I Can Apply Myself?

Below we have listed the most popular uv free spray on tanning products (that you apply yourself) based upon our own experience and recommendations from others.

Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray:

The best selling spray tanning product, self tanner. Great for touching up or instantly tanning parts of your body. Size: 4oz.

Mystic Tan is the best UV-Free spray tan product on the market. You get a true golden brown color and won’t turn orange! Make sure that you do the following prior to applying any spray tan product:

Exfoliate your skin: good skin preparation is important to achieving a balanced, even looking tan. Use a quality exfoliant gel, like Mystic Tan’s Exfoliant, that will remove the dead skin cells on the surface but won’t dry out your skin.

Don’t put any oil-based lotions on prior to your session: if you use a moisturizer every day, you may want to consider not using before doing your spray tan or Mystic session. Oils in the lotion can block the solution from penetrating your skin evenly, so results can appear blotchy or uneven if you do.

Wear loose fitting clothing afterwards, and don’t shower or exercise for at least 6 hours: for best results, don’t wear tight clothing or it may rub off on your clothes and make your tan uneven. Also, avoid showering or going to gym for at least 4-6 hours, and the longer the better for maximum results and a lasting tan!

And you can’t go wrong because these are proven to be the best uv free spray tanning products on the market, and they are tested…tested by us and others who love them! (And you will too).
